Amazon announces general availability of its new time series database for IoT, VMware rolls out new features for its Virtual Cloud Network offering, and more.

Amazon Web Services announced the general availability of Amazon Timestream, a new time series database for IoT and operational applications that can scale to process trillions of time series events per day up to 1,000 times faster than relational databases, and at as low as 1/10th the cost. Amazon Timestream saves businesses effort and expense by keeping recent data in-memory and moving historical data to a cost-optimized storage tier based upon user-defined policies, while its query processing gives businesses the ability to access and combine recent and historical data transparently across tiers with a single query, without needing to specify explicitly in the query whether the data resides in the in-memory or cost-optimized tier. Amazon Timestream’s analytics features provide time series-specific functionality to help customers identify trends and patterns in data in near real-time. Because Amazon Timestream is serverless, it automatically scales up or down to adjust capacity based on load, without customers needing to manage the underlying infrastructure. There are no upfront costs or commitments required to use Amazon Timestream, and customers pay only for the data they write, store, or query.
VMware unveiled Virtual Cloud Network innovations that will help businesses create a modern network that better supports current and future business initiatives. With advancements across the VMware networking and security portfolio, customers will be able to more effectively manage the rapid shift to remote work, deliver traditional and modern applications faster and more securely, and reduce the cost and complexity of connecting and protecting the distributed enterprise. Specifically, VMware will deliver new Virtual Cloud Network innovations across three areas – automation that enables the public cloud experience; modern application connectivity and security services; and solutions that re-imagine what’s possible in network security.
Denodo announced that its new Denodo Platform version 8.0, which accelerates hybrid/multicloud integration, automates data management with artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML), and boosts performance with smart query acceleration. By further augmenting the Denodo Platform’s data integration, management, and delivery capabilities with intelligent recommendations, hyper-performance, and PaaS support, Denodo Platform 8.0 advances data virtualization into a logical data fabric. Through data virtualization, the Denodo Platform offers enterprise-grade data integration, management, and delivery that rivals legacy data integration techniques. The new version of the Denodo Platform advances agile data integration and governed data management, extending Denodo’s reach into advanced hybrid and multicloud architectures and new data science use cases.
TigerGraph announced free licenses for TigerGraph Enterprise, an offering that will let businesses easily use graph analytics and algorithms that quickly traverse graphs to find insights in real-time. TigerGraph is now free for everyone to use for databases up to 50GB graph size. (That can be more than 150GB in other graph systems, which expand data rather than compress it). Free license users can get technical support from TigerGraph’s community forum. For paid TigerGraph support, users need an Enterprise license. The TigerGraph Enterprise Free License announcement comes a year after the company announced a free tier of TigerGraph Cloud, the first native graph database-as-a-service. The free license allows customers to learn and experience, develop and test, and deploy into production. TigerGraph Enterprise Free License complements the free tier available on TigerGraph Cloud; TigerGraph Cloud Free Tier is not changing and remains available.
LeanIX released its Business Transformation Management (BTM) Module for the LeanIX Enterprise Architecture Suite. The add-on BTM module lets enterprise business and IT teams work collaboratively on transformation —effectively like a GitHub for architecture management—and to visualize the future state of their IT landscape like with a time machine. As a result, LeanIX BTM creates a strategic link between high-level business objectives and transformation initiatives to articulate what the business needs and how it will change because of the transformation. LeanIX’s Business Transformation Management module completed successful beta testing with LeanIX customers, including the National Bank of Canada, Coca-Cola European Partners, and others. The new module is available now for existing LeanIX customers.
