VMware Announces VMware Horizon Cloud on Microsoft Azure
Cloud infrastructure provider VMware announced at IoT World 2017 that it will now deliver VMware Horizon Cloud on Microsoft Azure. VMware says this move will “help support the company’s cross-cloud strategy” offering customers a choice of infrastructure options for virtual desktops and apps as well as the flexibility to move between them. VMware Horizon Cloud on Microsoft Azure is expected to be available in the second half of 2017.

PNI Sensor Corporation and Senet Join Up for Smart Parking
Location and motion tracking system provider PNI Sensor Corporation and LPWAN (low power wide area networks) provider Senet announced at IoT World that they are coming together for smarter parking. PNI Sensor’s PlacePod smart parking device will be integrated with Senet’s LPWAN. The PlacePod is an IoT-enabled smart parking sensor that provides vehicle detection in parking spaces for real-time information on available parking and has up to 10 years of battery life.
“We are excited to partner with Senet and expand the IoT ecosystem for our smart parking customers,” said Becky Oh, President and CEO of PNI Sensor Corporation. “Now customers have the flexibility to customize their smart parking solution for their specific requirements and manage their parking resources using the Senet LPWAN within PNI’s parking cloud or utilize the Senet network for a private, on-premises deployment.”

Samsung Announces New SAMSUNG ARTIK™ 053 Module
At IoT World 2017, Samsung announced several new Artik Smart IoT platform products including a new 053 module. The Artik platform now offers end-to-end enterprise-grade security and its secure services for device onboarding and management are touted as being easy to to use. Another Artik product announced is QuickStart, a development program designed to help customers and partners jumpstart their IoT businesses.
Other new features in the SAMSUNG ARTIK Cloud platform include fast device onboarding, edge node management, secure over the air (OTA) updates, integration with Amazon AWS Kinesis Stream, new cloud connectors including Google Assistant on Google Home and Amazon Alexa Smart Home Skill, the company stated.
The new Artik 053 module is designed for connected home appliances, building products, health care devices, and industrial automation. It includes a 320MHz ARM® Cortex® R4 core, 1.4MB RAM and 8MB Flash, software and a pre-certified Wi-Fi radio. It is currently available to order.
